Martik Concert Istanbul Turkey 19 September
Martik Qarehkhaniyan, born on July 17, 1949, to Armenian parents in Abadan, turned to music at fifteen and moved to Tehran at sixteen to pursue a professional career. Initially playing the guitar and singing foreign songs, he gained public attention by singing Persian songs and collaborating with artists like Googoosh and Hassan Shamaizadeh in pre-revolution Iranian TV programs. In 1976, he sang his first Persian song, “Harir,” and accompanied Googoosh in a concert at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Two years after the Iranian Revolution, he moved to Los Angeles.
Despite his Western music style, which initially limited his popularity in Iran compared to singers like Moein and Ebi, he became well-known in the 1970s with hits like “Bahar” and “Mah,” composed by Sadegh Nojouki. His songs, often written by poets like Zoya Zakarian and composed by notable musicians, have many fans among those born in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Martik’s latest album, “Shadow Dweller,” was released in early 2015.
